what is 'kin?

people identify as 'kin in many different ways for many different reasons. though, at it's core, being 'kin means you identify AS a thing (creature, character, ect.) and believe you are them in some way.

it is important to know that those who kin don't just identify with them, but AS them. it's not simply just relating to a character.

the word otherkin was created in the 1990s for those who identified as elves, and many others who identified as other creatures started to use the term as well.

types of 'kin

Otherkin

otherkin is often used as an umbrella term for the entire kin community. some people use it to group all their non fictionkin or non therian kins together. example, people may put their mythical kins on their kinlist as otherkin.

Therian

therian is when you are kin with an animal, extinct or still living. a majority of therians believe they were the animal in a past life. common therian kins are wolves.

Fictionkin

fictionkin is when you are kin with a character or creature/animal from a fictional media (video games, movies, ect.). those who are fictionkin usually believe in the multiverse theory.

Factkin

factkin is when you believe you are kin with a real person, dead or alive. being factkin is frowned on in the community as its incredibly disrespectful to the person you kin. example, people may kin youtubers.

Those with delusions and factives are NOT factkin.
